Montreal Snow Festival

Snow's Festival The famous "joie de vivre" of Montreal is never expressed better than during Canada's premier Winter Festival, the Fête des Neiges. Held in the Parc Jean-Drapeau, it runs over three consecutive weekends, with selected events during the intervening weeks. Montréal’s largest outdoor winter event dates back to the early 1980's. Proud of their Nordic heritage, Montrealers expressed their desire to have their own festival to celebrate all that winter has to offer. To reach Jean-Drapeau Park  from Montreal, drive across the Jacques Cartier or Concord Bridge or take Montreal's Metro subway.

If you want to get a feel for Montreal in winter and the warm openness of the local people, there's no better time to visit. Mother Nature's wintry splendours will set the stage as the Island welcomes visitors to this fun-filled family event. To everyone's delight, longstanding favourites will return again:

The Skaters' Path, a 1.5-km ice skating path that provides a breath-taking view of Downtown Montreal. The Skating Ring  is the place to rediscover the pleasure of outdoor hockey.

These wonderful magical characters stroll through the site spreading good cheer and offering up warm friendly hugs to the delight of young and old alike. Boule de Neige, the irrefutable king of the celebrations, is busily getting ready for the festivities. He and his many friends are eager to welcome the children and take in the many pleasures of winter.
A Snow Castle dominates the centre of the fairytale realm of Boule de Neige, the kingdom of Snow Festival. The size of a football pitch, its labyrinthine ways are populated by various medieval characters and are open to exploration. The fun includes a competition for the world record for speed in ice sculpting, dogs sledding circuits for children and professionally-certified ice climbers, who teach the public how to scale a twelve-metre-high ice tower - a useful skill in these parts.
